Introduction to Sacred Geometry
The Square and Compasses

Remember Brothers - the Compasses should be at 60 degrees, the square at 90.
Look for this wherever you see the square and compasses. The
compasses are positioned at 60 degrees to represent the equilateral
triangle, symbol of Deity. This angle should be important and
revered by every Mason. The square represents the right
triangle and shows us that man is imperfect. Put together with
the Compasses it represents man's pursuit of a perfect state.
The Past Master and Perfect Master jewels are absent the square
indicating that Mason is moving away from the Earthly and towards
the Heavenly.
"[The Square] ... is and emblem of what concerns the earth and the body; [the Compasses] of what concerns the heavens and the soul"
(Morals and Dogma - Albert Pike p. 11)
